twentythree wants to make you feel free. The Iranian-born, Toronto-based artist found that freedom for himself the moment he decided to step out as the face of his own music. We caught up with @Twentythree after the release of his debut mixtape, ‘6ix Pop.’ ”6ix Pop is my genre,” twentythree tells Pigeons and Planes. “It’s the sound that I created with my music.”  Check out what he had to say: 🌟 On co-signs from Drake and fakemink: “It's super exciting! They're both super fire artists, and it's fire that they're showing love to me.” On how he started out: “I started making music for fun. Then at some point, I started making connections and getting paid for the songs I was producing, and it all just kinda made sense.” On becoming the face of his own music: "Working as a producer wasn't for me because I didn't have full control over my work. I thought I had a lot to say, which is why I decided to invest in myself at some point and just spend my time making music for myself as an artist." On discovering new music: "There's this website where you can click on different countries, and it gives you a random song from a random era from that country. I found a bunch of stuff on there, and then I started listening to more from there. It's called Radiooooo.” On live performance: "Hearing my songs live and seeing how people react to them is a very crazy feeling. I really get to connect with my fans every time I have a show-just being on the stage, talking to them, and meeting them before or after. It just means a lot." What were you listening to growing up? "Shout out to Mustard [...] | was also super big on the SoundCloud era, some older '90s rock music, pop from the 2000s to the 2010s, and even jazz sometimes. I really like a lot of Japanese jazz that I find randomly." On recording music:  “The recording process is a very sacred ritual that takes place when I’m by myself.” twentythree wants to make you feel… “Free. The song that makes me feel the most free on the new album is ’COUPLE MS.’” On founding his music collective, Greezy Gang: “Greezy Gang is me and my friends, and we make music that's inspired by our lives in Toronto and the scene out here. It means everything to me.” Outside of music, how do you spend your time? "I like spending time with my friends, and I shop a lot. I play sports, I work out, and I relax a lot.
