Play a normal match with the children you’re coaching! Before you kick off, pair all of the children up with someone from the opposite team.⁠
⁠
Children play a normal match, however, if their partner scores a goal, they are eliminated from the match for 30 seconds!⁠
⁠
If you’re playing a 6v6, this will give the attacking team a 6v5 advantage for 30 seconds. This is great for the players still in the game, as it helps with tactical thinking, as they may have to play slightly differently. It’s also great because the team will have to share the responsibility of marking additional players to avoid conceding, which encourages responsibility, leadership, and communication.⁠

For the child who is ‘eliminated’, I get them to come over to me and talk about what they think they could do differently. It’s a great opportunity to offer some 1-2-1 coaching and support!⁠
