Please note that the cookbook author has withdrawn her demand and apologized, so let’s not pile-on. This was just a great opportunity to share legal info on a topic that is widely misunderstood. It also happens to be one that I’m personally familiar with. I’ve had many of my recipes copied without credit. But I’ve never made a stink about it for precisely this reason. I don’t think it’s cool to “borrow” recipes without credit, but, legally, an author doesn’t have much a claim for calling it “stealing.” Once someone tried to sell an AI generated copy of The Korean Vegan Cookbook and only because it copied my table of contents was I able to get it removed. Otherwise I would have been SOL. Just something to keep in mind the next time you start seeing allegations of “recipe theft”! #law #randomlawthings #cakepop
