Story Book 807: 🕊️ SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI (1181/1182–1226)

A wealthy young man who gave up everything to live a life of love, humility, and service.

Born in Assisi, Italy, as Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone (later called Francesco), he grew up in a prosperous merchant family and enjoyed a comfortable life.

As a young man, Francis dreamed of becoming a famous knight.

But after illness and deep reflection, his heart changed.

He realized that lasting happiness was not found in wealth or status, but in serving others.

He gave away his possessions, embraced a simple life, and dedicated himself to caring for the poor, the sick, and those who had been forgotten.

🌿 Saint Francis also had a deep love for nature.

He believed that every person, every animal, and every part of creation reflected God’s goodness.

He treated all living beings with kindness and respect, earning a lasting reputation as a symbol of peace and compassion.

He later founded the Franciscan Order, inspiring countless people to live with humility, joy, and service.

🌍 His influence continues around the world through communities devoted to helping others and caring for creation.

💬 One of his best-known teachings reminds us:

“Start by doing what’s necessary; then what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
