What began as a child support dispute allegedly escalated into violence over the course of two years 😰💔🕊️

Ottawa Police have identified 40 year old Dentist Mohammed Al-Lami, 40, as the man believed to have k*lled his 7- and 12-year-old sons before dying by suicide earlier this week

 Police say Al-Lami was a local dentist who owned his own dental clinic in the nearby village of Kars, which investigators believe he firebombed hours before the deaths. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.

According to newly obtained Ontario court records and court audio reported by CBC News, Al-Lami had been on probation after being found guilty earlier this year of threatening his ex-wife, the boys’ mother. 

The threats allegedly included statements such as, “I will kill everyone around you,” and “I will make you a worldwide story.” Prosecutors requested a stricter probation order, mandatory intervention programming, and a DNA order, citing concerns about his lack of remorse and accountability. Those requests were not granted.

Court testimony also revealed that the couple separated in 2022 and that disputes over child support preceded the threatening email. 

During trial, Al-Lami represented himself, declined to testify, and offered no defence. The judge ultimately granted him a conditional discharge with 12 months of probation, meaning he would avoid a criminal record if he complied with the conditions.

On Thursday, Ottawa Police said they are continuing to support the boys’ mother as she grieves what they described as an “unimaginable loss.” 

At her request, the identities of the children have not been released. Police say forensic examinations and other investigative work are still underway, and more information will be shared when appropriate.
