Three months. 

Benny smiles like it’s his full-time job — wide, easy, like the world is constantly exceeding his expectations. And Dash watches everything. Takes it all in. You can almost see him filing it away.

Both haven’t stopped moving since the day they was born. Their legs are in constant conversation with a world they haven’t reached yet but are absolutely planning to.

And this month they started noticing each other.

I can’t fully explain what it does to me to watch one of them find his brother’s face and just light up. Like they have been waiting for each other from a previous life.

Three months of every ounce gained. Every inch grown. Every neck lift, every yawn, every smile that comes out of nowhere and rearranges me completely. Every single bit of it fed — exclusively by my body. That is not a small thing. It hasn’t been easy. It has been a choice we made as a family, every single day, and I am proud of myself in a way I don’t say out loud enough.

I was so full of doubt when they were born. So unsure of how we would get through this. And we just do — one day, one feed, one sunrise at a time.

Someone told me the newborn phase lasts until four months. Which means I’m standing in the final stretch of it right now. And somehow it has gone so fast that I can barely account for where the time went.

These are our last babies. I know that. And knowing it has made even the hardest parts — the exhaustion, the touched-out moments, the 1 am and 3 am and 5 am feeds — feel just a little bit sweeter. Because I get to be here for all of it, and I know I won’t get to be here for this again.
