I spent a lot of time thinking I needed to feel confident before I could do the things that scared me.

turns out, a lot of confidence is built by moving before you feel ready.

so, here’s some life advice I wish I understood sooner:

1️⃣ get a mentor.
you don’t have to figure everything out by yourself. find people who are where you want to be, or have wisdom in areas where you want to grow. ask questions. listen. learn.

2️⃣ if you run from hard things, you might run from great things too.
some of the best things in your life will require you to be uncomfortable first. difficulty isn’t always a sign to turn around.

3️⃣ don’t chase happiness. learn to recognize happy moments.
I don’t think life is meant to feel good all the time. but there are good moments everywhere—the big ones and the small ones. be present enough to notice them.

4️⃣ don’t let perfection be the reason you never tried.
you can improve something you started. you can learn from something that failed. but you can’t grow from the thing you were too hesitant to begin.

5️⃣ take advantage of the opportunity to make the effort.
we talk a lot about whether our efforts will succeed, but sometimes overlook the privilege of being able to try in the first place. opportunity doesn’t always come, and it doesn’t always stay.

at 16, I thought confidence would come first and then I would move.

at 25, I’m learning that sometimes you move first—and confidence catches up with you along the way.
