The elder Shobeir kept a clean sheet in the notorious 0-0 draw with Ireland in 1990, and he remains the only Egyptian goalkeeper to not allow a goal at a World Cup start. 

But Mostafa has some bragging rights on dear old dad. The younger Shobeir’s Pharaohs are the nation’s first entrants to reach a World Cup Round of 16, and to win a game at the tournament.

Mostafa Shobeir’s penalty save against Messi was his second of the World Cup, putting him on a very short list of goalkeepers who stopped multiple spot kicks in a single tournament 🧤
