New research presented at ESHRE 2026 found that exposure to common air pollutants may alter how genes function in sperm, raising important questions about male fertility, pregnancy outcomes and even the long-term health of future children.

Researchers studying more than 2,000 men found links between air pollution and changes in genes involved in sperm and early embryo development. While the study doesn’t prove pollution causes infertility, it adds to growing evidence that our environment plays an important role in reproductive health.
