🌊 July 15 is #ArcticSeaIceDay ❄️ - a global reminder of the vital role Arctic sea ice plays in regulating Earth's climate and supporting life far beyond the North.

Sea ice is much more than frozen water. It reflects sunlight, helps regulate global temperatures, and provides essential habitat for countless Arctic species. As it continues to disappear due to climate change, the impacts will be felt around the world.

For Arctic communities, the consequences are profound. Diminishing sea ice disrupts traditional ways of life, threatens food security, and makes travel across the landscape increasingly dangerous. At the same time, thawing permafrost is damaging homes, roads, and community infrastructure, placing immense pressure on the people who have called the Arctic home for generations 

Closer to home and here at your Toronto Zoo, protecting wildlife also means protecting the wild spaces they depend on. As part of our 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, we are committed to advancing climate action by reducing our environmental footprint, inspiring conservation action, and helping create a future where people, wildlife, and wild spaces thrive.
