How many Indians actually pay income tax? 🇮🇳💰

Out of India's population of over 1.4 billion people, only around 91 million file income tax returns — that's barely 6-7% of the entire country.

And here's the bigger twist: under the new tax regime, anyone earning up to ₹12 lakh a year pays ZERO income tax thanks to the Section 87A rebate. So the actual number of people who pay meaningful tax is even smaller than the filers.
