‘Children of Blood and Bone’ author Tomi Adeyemi says she’s distancing herself from the upcoming film adaptation after fans questioned why she hadn’t been promoting it.

In a TikTok post, Adeyemi revealed she won’t be watching the movie or supporting it, and also shared that she blocked lead actress Amandla Stenberg. 👀

The adaptation was announced in 2025 with a star-studded cast including Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Damson Idris, and Stenberg. But Stenberg’s casting as Princess Amari sparked debate, with some fans arguing she didn’t match the novel’s description of the character, who is described as having “dark copper skin.”

Back in 2025, Stenberg addressed the criticism during a TikTok Live, saying Adeyemi had been involved in the casting process from the start and had personally supported her, even referencing the racist backlash Stenberg received after being cast as Rue in ‘The Hunger Games’.

Despite her claims, Adeyemi’s recent post shows she had blocked Amandla in 2025 likely right after her TikTok live. 😶

Fans have been split, with some expressing disappointment over Adeyemi’s decision to distance herself from the adaptation, while others have voiced support for her stance.
