While other anime studios have been using AI for their projects, ‘Ghost in the Shell’ is GenAI free. 💻❌

Toma Kimura, the director of the ‘Ghost in the Shell’ remake told the crowd at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Festival that his upcoming project wouldn’t have any generative AI. Safe to say the crowd was ecstatic over the news. 👏

“We wanted every street sign to be specifically designed, but it became too much of a burden,” he told the crowd.

But instead of using AI, Science Saru came up with a solution.

“Instead, we used this worm-like lettering that looks like kanji but is actually gibberish. We decided on this before generative AI became prevalent, so please know that zero GenAI was used on the project.”

‘Ghost in the Shell’ will also feature 2 Canadian artists on the soundtrack! Daniel Caesar and Saya Gray teamed up with the music group Millennium Parade to create “Blue,” which will be the ending theme song for the TV anime. 🇨🇦

Do you like that ‘Ghost in the Shell’ remake is avoiding the use of AI? 👀 Let us know in the comments. ⬇️
