BETWEEN FOMO AND JOMO
My friend dmnt_bnkt asked me a really good question this week:

“Alina, how do you actually get any work done in Barcelona?”

And honestly… it’s a real challenge.

This city has sunshine almost every day, the sea is five minutes away, concerts, festivals, networking events, beach clubs, sports events, and somehow every weekend there is something happening.

When you first move here, you experience FOMO.

You want to go everywhere.
See everything.
Say yes to every invitation.

Then, after a while, something changes.

You discover JOMO — the Joy of Missing Out.

You realize you don’t have to be everywhere.

In fact, you can’t.

And that’s when the real challenge begins: finding your balance.

For me, the priorities became clear:
my health,
my morning routine,
my work,
my family and close friends.

Everything else fits around those.

Some people rent an apartment far from the beach so they’re less tempted. Others stop checking event calendars altogether. Some simply fill their schedule with meaningful work.

And then… Spain and World Cup, the Pope visits Barcelona, Bad Bunny is here, good Rosalia is there, Tour de France arrives, there’s a festival, an eclipse, or another once-in-a-lifetime event…

…and you’re searching for balance all over again.

But you know what?

I’d rather have the “problem” of choosing between wonderful opportunities than trying to create happiness from nothing.

Maybe that’s one of the nicest problems Barcelona gives you.

Learning that your dream life isn’t about doing everything.

It’s about choosing what matters most to you. 💙
