It’s been 25 years since The Office first aired in the UK, making its BBC Two debut on 9 July 2001.⁠

Created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the mockumentary sitcom only ran for two series and two Christmas specials, with 14 episodes in total, but its impact on comedy has been massive.⁠

Set inside the fictional Wernham Hogg paper company in Slough, the series introduced viewers to David Brent, Gareth Keenan, Tim Canterbury and Dawn Tinsley, while helping popularise the awkward, no-laugh-track mockumentary style that influenced a whole generation of sitcoms.⁠

The Office also went on to inspire international versions, including the hugely successful US remake, and picked up major awards including BAFTAs and Golden Globes.⁠
