Yes, it is crucial for us to protect forests because they sustain our lives. Forests provide clean water, stable soil that nourishes our food sources, and fresh, clean air. 🌿⁣

But long before this resolution was written, long before any law was passed, Indigenous Peoples and local communities have been protecting trees, defending them as living beings for thousands of years. ⁣

To every forest defender who has stood guard without the backing of a law: thank you! We see you and we are grateful for you. 💚⁣

Forests are still standing, in part, because you never waited for permission to protect them.⁣
