A Long Island man with a history of mental health issues who says he tried to die by suicide while in ICE jails has been granted bond and is expected to be released soon after nine months of detention, according to officials and his attorney.

Juan Bonilla Lagos, 32, was living in Plainview when he was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement near his home. He was ordered freed from an ICE jail by an immigration judge, the Department of Homeland Security told Newsday in a statement.
