2006 SEC Championship Game: Florida 38, Arkansas 28 | Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA. December 2, 2006

Urban Meyer's Florida Gators outlasted eighth-ranked Arkansas 38-28 in a wild, back-and-forth battle, claiming the program's seventh SEC title and setting up a run to the national championship.

Florida jumped out to a 17-0 lead behind a Chris Hetland field goal, a Chris Leak touchdown run set up by a blocked punt, and a 37-yard touchdown catch by freshman Percy Harvin. Arkansas answered before halftime when Casey Dick found Marcus Monk for a 48-yard score, cutting the deficit to 17-7. The Razorbacks kept coming in the third quarter, tying a wild trick-play touchdown pass from Darren McFadden to Felix Jones with a 2-yard score, then taking their first lead of the game at 21-17 on a 40-yard interception return by defensive lineman Antwain Robinson.

Florida answered right back. Arkansas returner Reggie Fish fumbled a punt attempt inside his own five-yard line, and Wondy Pierre Louis recovered it in the end zone to put the Gators back in front, 24-21. Harvin then broke off a career-long 67-yard touchdown run on Florida's first play of the fourth quarter to push the lead to 31- 21. Arkansas answered again, with Cedric Washington throwing a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jones on a double pass, cutting it to 31-28, but Florida closed the door with an 80-yard drive capped by a 5-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver Andre Caldwell to Tate Casey. Reggie Nelson and Ryan Smith sealed the win with fourth-quarter interceptions.

Harvin finished with 167 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns to earn game MVP honors, while Florida's defense held McFadden, the SEC's leading rusher, to just 73 yards on 21 carries. The win pushed Florida to 12-1 on the season, matching the school's single-season win record, and, thanks to Southern Cal's upset loss to UCLA earlier that day, the Gators leapfrogged into position for the BCS National Championship Game. Florida went on to beat Ohio State for the national title, while Arkansas settled for a Capital One Bowl appearance.
