LIVE REVIEW: Despite picking and choosing their appearances a bit more sparingly than in the past, the adoration that continues to exist for Mallory Knox is a testament to just how much their output means to so many. And in making a welcome return to 2000trees, they demonstrate why they are still very much a cornerstone of the UK rock scene.
This is done via a carefully constructed and beautifully anthemic reminder of just how many absolutely monumental choruses they have in their arsenal. ‘Ghost In The Mirror’ has arms aloft in every space occupied throughout this stifling tent, whilst ‘Beggars’ and ‘Wake Up’ still feel as laser-focused and audacious now as they did when they took the scene by storm some 13 years ago.
Mikey Chapman has, frankly, never sounded better, his crystalline vocals soaring and cruising with utter ease and electricity. ‘Shout At The Moon’ feels icy cold in such heated conditions, whilst a rallying ‘Lighthouse’ is dispatched with spellbinding levels of grandeur and gravitas.
It’s a total joy to behold as it is to see the band still finding such unbridled pleasure in what they do.
The sightings may be rarer than they used to be, but they are all the more profound and powerful when they do happen. And such a stunning display is more than enough to tide us all over until the next fantastical step is chosen.
