I definitely felt behind as my grad school peers were accumulating publications while I was toiling away on 1-2 manuscripts.

I had poor writing mentoring and minimal assistance in how to get published

Poor writing mentorship and low editorial support exclude marginalized voices in STEM. Period. 

It's not that you're a bad writer, it's not that your idea is bad, it's not that you're not good enough. You are not getting enough help.
