Six years after chants of "Black Lives Matter" filled the streets of Des Moines and the nation, a new Iowa law repeals the implicit bias training requirements for Iowa's law enforcement adopted in 2020.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed House File 2647 into law on June 12, 2020, banning most police chokeholds, allowing investigations into police deaths by the Iowa attorney general, and requiring annual de-escalation and implicit bias training.

On June 1, 2026, Reynolds approved the repeal of certain provisions under the law, including the requirement for implicit bias training.
