What do you do when your country is eliminated from the World Cup?

If you’re a Jordan fan living in Texas, you still go ahead and throw the greatest party ever. 

Following an unbelievable few days in Kansas City with Dutch, Croatian, and Algerian fans, we journeyed down to Dallas looking for more adventures. And if this road trip has taught us anything so far, it’s that you’ll never be fully prepared for what you find during this World Cup. 

As we sat in a parking lot in downtown Dallas, roasting under the relentless Texas heat, we looked up where to watch the Jordan vs Argentina game. The match was at Jerry World, but we had no shot at getting any tickets. “Maybe we go to an Argentine restaurant here in town?” 

We were ready to hit Go, until two strangers approached us in the parking lot.

“Hey, can we get a picture with this mural over there?” 

It was an image of Jordanian legend, Mousa Altamari, looking out heroically into the distance, almost as if saying, “this way, friends.” 

We quickly got to chatting, and the two strangers let us know they were heading to the stadium that night to see their heroes play. Soon, we learned there was gonna be an enormous watch party for the Jordanian community in Dallas over at Levitt Arlington Pavillion. 

Sounded pretty cool, so we jumped in the car and headed over. 

We were dehydrated, tired, and with a bit of a headache… but walking through those gates to the party was like entering the sweetest oasis one could ever find on the road.

Arabic coffee, Shimaghs for everyone, and dancing arm in arm until the sun went down. There must’ve been thousands of people there. All for a game that, on paper, didn’t matter. 

For all those present, though, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A final chance to celebrate their country’s first appearance at a World Cup with as much fanfare as possible. It was glorious. 

Our stop in Dallas showed us that the beautiful game, and perhaps life itself, is about much more than just winning and losing. Savoring every minute like it’s the last, even in the face of defeat, is maybe the whole point…
