The curvification of my kitchen - Part 2

A couple of weeks ago I was standing in front of the sliding door between the kitchen and utility room, and I suddenly said to my daughter, “oh my God, this door HAS to be arched!”

“But I’m not sure how to do it.”

My daughter said, “Well I have just done my DT (Design Technology) GCSE, so I can tell you exactly how to do it!”

So here we go …

What do you think? Better arched or squared?

In other news, I’ve been talking on my stories about how I was bitten on my face by a dog a couple of days ago and the lessons I learned from it. You should be able to just catch them still this morning.

So this is what it was like before - it’s a sliding door to the utility room, which is basically a concrete hole dumping ground with a washing machine in it at the moment!

So Coco’s idea was simply to cut out a curved insert from MDF and glue and pin it into the frame.

Genius!

As it happens we had a big magazine photoshoot coming up a couple of days later, so in fact, I asked a carpenter to cut it out for me while I got on with other stuff prepping for the Shoot.

I have two more sliding doors like this upstairs, going into the en suite bathrooms, so I will do those myself and show you.

I foolishly didn’t think about painting the door before fixing in the insert, because I was so excited. So I painted it afterwards, which was a bit awkward, but not a huge problem.

Having filled the joints of the inert and sanded it back, I then painted it in the same color as the wall.

Honestly, it’s not perfect and if you go up to it and look closely you can see the joints still, but with normal walking around, you really don’t notice it.

I’ll do better next time!

Then the fun bit of painting the door!

Again, I should’ve done this before adding the insert, but it’s good enough!

Do you like the colour?

And here we have it!

It is difficult to describe how much difference
