Boston has one of the most ambitious open-space legacies in the country, and you’re living in it.

🌿 95% of residents are just a five-minute walk from a park or green space.
📍 That’s thanks in large part to the Emerald Necklace, a vision launched in the 1800s by Frederick Law Olmsted to connect Boston’s urban parks — from Boston Common to Franklin Park.

But while access is high, quality isn’t equal.

Some neighborhoods lack recreational options like sports fields, water access, or updated landscaping.

The dream of a fully connected, equitable green network still inspires Boston, but there’s work to do to make every park feel like it belongs to everyone.
