🌍🛰️ How does UNOOSA support countries in the aftermath of disasters? Here’s how we assisted Venezuela. Following the devastating earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela on 24 June 2026, UNOOSA, through our UN-SPIDER programme, supported the international humanitarian response by facilitating rapid access to satellite imagery and geospatial information.

Working in close coordination with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the deployed UNDAC team, the International Charter: Space and Major Disasters, the Charter Project Manager (ABAE), satellite data providers, and the UN-SPIDER Regional Support Office network, UN-SPIDER coordinated the acquisition and dissemination of over 120 very high-resolution satellite imagery to support damage assessments and humanitarian decision-making by first responders on the ground.

In a situation where every minute counts, this satellite imagery helped humanitarian responders to:
1️⃣ Assess damage to buildings and critical infrastructure
2️⃣ Improve situational awareness where field access is limited
3️⃣ Support operational planning and prioritization of humanitarian assistance
4️⃣ Provide tailored geospatial products for shelter planning and humanitarian coordination as the response evolves

A huge thank you to our partners across the humanitarian and space communities for their collaboration in supporting the people of Venezuela.
