Don’t feel guilty for outgrowing people. The version of you they knew belongs to your past, not your present. It’s okay if they no longer align with your energy. Growth is meant to change you.

The other day, I got a call from someone I hadn’t spoken to in almost 15 years. He was in town and wanted to catch up.

For a second, it felt nostalgic. So many memories came flooding back. We had a great time together back then, and there was never any bad blood between us.

But as I sat with the thought of meeting, I realized something…

The version of me they knew doesn’t exist anymore.

Over the years, my priorities have changed. The conversations I enjoy have changed. The people I feel connected to have changed. The life I’m building today is very different from the life I had 15 years ago.

And that’s when I understood something important.

Outgrowing people doesn’t mean you think you’re better than them. It doesn’t mean you’re judging them or disrespecting them.

It simply means you’ve become intentional about where you invest your time, your energy, and your attention.

We often feel guilty for saying no to people from our past, as if we owe them access to our present. But we don’t.

Some relationships are meant for a season. They helped shape who you were, but they don’t necessarily belong in the person you’re becoming.

So if you’ve outgrown certain friendships, don’t carry guilt.

Wish them well. Be grateful for the memories. And keep walking toward the life that feels aligned with who you are today.

Because protecting your peace isn’t rejecting people—it’s choosing yourself.
