Lilian Odira won the Prefontaine Classic women's 800m in 1:56.19, beating Keely Hodgkinson (1:56.73) for the second time in as many major head-to-head meetings — the first being Odira's gold medal run at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.

But the story of the race wasn't entirely Odira's win. It was Keely.

Hodgkinson raced with heavy bandaging on both knees after a training fall earlier in the week that left her barely able to walk. Her 1:56.73 is well off the 1:53-range shape her camp has publicly targeted for her London Diamond League world record attempt on July 18 — an attempt that is now, two weeks out, in serious question.
