Saturday I completed my first Peachtree Road Race, and for the first time, I had to admit…

The Suit Guy is really a thing.

The amount of love I received was something I’ll never forget or experienced . Every few steps someone was yelling “Suit Guy!”, asking for a picture, or telling me how much they loved what I was doing. It was a feeling that was honestly overwhelming but in a good way.

I won’t lie… every race day it’s hard to put that suit on and race because There’s always that little voice wondering if people are going to HATE ME, judge me, or JUST SPEAK NEGATIVELY ABOUT ME

And trust me… I hear the chatter. I hear people say it’s a gimmick. I hear people say I only do it for attention, or that I must’ve never had attention before so I’m chasing it now.

But the reality is much simpler than that.

What started as a funny idea something I genuinely enjoyed doing(DRESSING IN SUITS AND FORMAL) turned into something much bigger than me. It became something that inspires people, motivates people, gets people outside, gets people AKTIVE, and gives people the confidence to embrace being different. I could’ve never imagined that.

Every single time someone stops me for a picture, tells me they love what I’m doing, or says I inspired them, it reminds me exactly why I started this journey.

Y’all have no idea what that support does for me. It gives me the push to keep showing up, to keep being different, and to keep believing that it’s okay to be yourself.

As a Black man doing something outside the norm, seeing my own people embrace me, encourage me, and celebrate me means more than I can put into words.

So please… don’t ever stop saying hello. Don’t stop asking for pictures. Don’t stop showing love. You never know how much it means to the person on the receiving end.

Atlanta, ILL NEVER FORGET THIS EXPERIENCE 

So while some of y’all choose to watch me with a negative eye and speak with a negative tongue, there are thousands of others who choose to speak with love, encouragement, and positivity. That’s what I choose to focus on.
