250 years in. Still becoming. 🇺🇸

It was an honor for our ds_moments team to design Tennessee’s activation for the Great American State Fair, representing our state and celebrating our country at 250. I came to Washington DC to capture our work, show my kids what this all means, and celebrate the future of this great nation.

Fitting that #tennessee gets a stage. The Constitution is a draft that improves — and in 1920, Tennessee cast the deciding vote to ratify the 19th Amendment. The “Perfect 36.” 26 million American women gained the vote. Amendment by amendment, we become.

For “we the people,” it’s worth remembering how rare this experiment we call “The United States of America” is, two hundred and fifty years in. Today, autocracies outnumber democracies on Earth, and ours remains the oldest written national constitution still in force. Roughly 800,000 people a year still choose to become American citizens.

Rare is not the same as finished. 
At 250, we still face a widening economic divide, a polarization that casts citizens as enemies rather than co-authors, and a trust deficit no adversary built for us.

The founders didn’t hand us a monument, they handed us a draft. “A more perfect union” is a direction, not a destination. The story worth telling at 250 isn’t how great we were. It’s how far we’ve come, told honestly, and how far we can go if we choose solutions over spectacle and purpose over pomp.

This is the work we all share as Americans on our journey of self-discovery.
