Not all of these love stories were perfect, but Black movies, sitcoms, and media were, for many of us, the only places we ever saw love fighting to survive and sometimes thrive in a world that could be so unkind. Those stories gave us hope, showed us tenderness, and reminded us what was possible. I’m forever indebted to Martin and Gina, just as deeply as I am to Dwayne and Whitley.
