‘Social work always helped me. I’ve always worked to support my family, culture, land and kinship.’

After the death of his partner eight years ago, Nash raised his five daughters, all while completing his Masters in Social Work at James Cook University. 🎓

In February this year, that journey led him to a role as a social worker at Cooktown Multipurpose Health Service, joining as the first social worker through Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service’s First Nations Allied Health Graduate Pathway.

It’s a pathway Nash knows well. He began his career as an allied health assistant before progressing through to the graduate role, and previously contributed to establishing an Indigenous drug and alcohol family residential rehabilitation service in Cooktown.

And his daughters are following his lead. One daughter has completed a Deadly Start traineeship, his eldest two are at university, and his youngest are finishing high school. 🙌

‘We are so proud of Nash for all that he has achieved and believe he could go on to be a leader within our Allied Health team,’ Acting Executive Director Allied Health Jennifer Mann said.

Nash would like to give a special shout out to his partner, Kristina:

‘I’m also grateful for and would like to acknowledge my beautiful partner Kristina for her support, care and love. I couldn’t have done it without her keeping the family functioning and together throughout the late nights studying.’
