Progress has been going very well lately, generating more spin and knowing when she has executed topspin under her own control. Typically my mother hits very flat & slices her backhand before charging into the net to volley. 

Learning to develop a heavy topspin forehand is important as it allows you to hit with a high net clearance and a safe for trading ball. This means you will have more margin for errors.
