Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodriguez said the government has requested the release of Venezuelan gold held in London to help fund recovery efforts after two major earthquakes. ⁣

The Bank of England holds around 31 tonnes of Venezuela’s gold, worth around $4bn – but since 2018, Caracas has been banned from repatriating it. ⁣

Rodriguez said the gold belongs to the Venezuelan people and should be used to support rebuilding efforts following the disaster.⁣
