The Minnesota Department of Health has released a new expert report on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) biomonitoring best practices for Minnesota firefighters, developed under legislative direction and in partnership with Eastern Research Group and Minnesota firefighter associations. Biomonitoring means measuring chemicals in people. It helps scientists understand how much of a chemical, like PFAS, is in the body and how exposure happens. The report outlines practical, evidence-based methods for studying PFAS exposure in the firefighting community and is already guiding a new three-year MDH project to help protect those who protect us.
