Keys and keychains might seem harmless, but did you know that some of the keys and keychains we use every day could contain lead? Lead exposure can have harmful effects on children’s health and development. A study found lead in 64% of the keys that were tested, and door keys had the highest concentration of lead. Keys were less likely to contain lead if they were silver-colored, car keys or electronic fobs, and new. Simple actions, such as keeping keys away from kids, could help prevent exposure. How do you approach reducing exposure to potentially harmful materials, like keys, in daily life?
