The Period of #PURPLEcrying is the time in a baby's life between 2 weeks of age and 4-5 months where they go through inconsolable crying. This crying can be frustrating!

Parents and caregivers may experience many discouraging feelings… feeling like a failure, feeling the need to "fix" the problem, feeling responsible for not being able to soothe the baby, and feeling anxious by the crying. These feelings are NORMAL.

Instead of focusing on soothing your baby, focus on supporting your baby while taking care of yourself to cope with your feelings. It's critical you find coping strategies that give you a break from the crying and work for you! These may include calling a friend, enjoying your favorite show or podcast, or reading a book.

When you take a break from the crying, make sure to place your baby on their back and in a safety-approved crib, bassinet, or play yard. NEVER shake or hurt a baby. It's important to remember that you are normal and this developmental period in your infant's life will come to an end.
