Governor Tim Walz and Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan have proclaimed today ClearWay Minnesota Day to recognize ClearWay Minnesota’s lasting impact on the state of Minnesota and the nation. ClearWay Minnesota has led the fight against commercial tobacco use – Minnesota’s leading preventable cause of disease and death – for more than two decades. ClearWay Minnesota was founded in 1998 and entrusted with $202 million of Minnesota’s initial settlement with the tobacco industry. With a maximum lifespan of 25 years, ClearWay Minnesota will sunset at the end of 2021. ClearWay Minnesota’s efforts have improved the lives of all Minnesota residents by reducing commercial tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke through state and local polices, cutting edge research, cessation services, public awareness campaigns, and engaging communities most impacted by commercial tobacco.
