દર વર્ષે લાખો શ્રદ્ધાળુઓ ભગવાન જગન્નાથની ભવ્ય રથયાત્રામાં જોડાય છે, પરંતુ શું તમે તેની પાછળ છુપાયેલી અનોખી સનાતન પરંપરાઓ વિશે જાણો છો? કોઈપણ ખીલા કે ધાતુના ઉપયોગ વગર લીમડાના પવિત્ર લાકડામાંથી બનતા ત્રણ દિવ્ય રથો–તાલધ્વજ, દર્પદલન અને નંદીઘોષની રચનાથી લઈને અનોખી સ્નાનયાત્રા અને ભગવાનના બીમાર પડવાની 'અણસર' વિધિ સુધીની ગાથા અદ્ભુત છે. યાત્રા પૂર્વે પુરીના ગજપતિ રાજા દ્વારા સોનાની ઝાડુથી રથ સાફ કરવાની 'છેરા પહરા' વિધિ દર્શાવે છે કે ભગવાનની નજરમાં રાજા અને રંક બધા સમાન છે. અષાઢ સુદ બીજના દિવસે રથની દોરી ખેંચીને ધન્યતા અનુભવતા ભક્તો અને ગુડીચા મંદિરના સાત દિવસના પ્રવાસ સહિતની આ જીવંત ગાથા શ્રદ્ધાનો સર્વોચ્ચ ઉત્સવ છે.
