Photos by joelsartore | Meet the giant snake-necked turtle, the largest of the long-necked turtles found in Australia. Turtles like this one play an important role in river ecosystems, especially after a fish kill. They will feed on dead fish, returning ammonia and dissolved oxygen back into the river in just three to six days (natural decomposition can take nearly a month).
