What does Arctic sea ice have to do with bald eagles? More than you might think!

Arctic Sea Ice Day on July 15 is a reminder that the effects of a warming Arctic extend far beyond the sea ice itself.

Climate change doesn't just affect Arctic species; it also impacts iconic Canadian wildlife like the bald eagle. 🦅

As northern Canada warms three times faster than the global average, bald eagles are adapting to a rapidly changing environment. Warmer temperatures are shifting migration patterns, changing when and where they find food, and increasing the risk of nest failure from extreme weather. Rising temperatures also threaten the large, mature trees eagles rely on to build their nests.

Why is this happening? Think of Earth's atmosphere like a blanket. Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide, making that blanket thicker and trapping more heat. As our climate changes, ecosystems become less predictable, affecting wildlife from the Arctic to our own backyards.

The good news? We can all help. 🌎

💙 Talk about climate change and why it matters.
🌲 Protect old-growth forests, which provide nesting habitat for bald eagles while storing large amounts of carbon.
🌿 Support organizations working to protect wildlife and natural spaces, like Ontario Nature.

Every conversation, every tree protected and every action we take helps create a healthier future for wildlife and people alike.
