Two Things That Shocked Me the Most When I Came to America

This is a little personal, but it is one of the reasons I became a teacher.

Just to be clear, I’m not judging anyone’s personal style. When I came to America 33 years ago as a 19 year old, seeing a fur coat with sneakers was simply something I had never seen before, and I just couldn’t make sense of the combination.

Even after 34 years in America, it still stays with me. I realized that my mission is not only to help you achieve better facial results but also to help change the culture of esthetics.

I grew up in a family where being an esthetician was a profession to be proud of. My grandmother was an esthetician, and she carried herself with dignity. I remember when we visited her esthetician friend, Lena. My grandmother dressed me in my nicest clothes because we were going to visit another esthetician. That meant something. Those values have stayed with me my entire life.

But I also believe that respect must be earned.

Receiving an esthetics license does not automatically make someone an esthetician. A license gives you the legal right to practice. Becoming an esthetician is something much deeper. It is earned through years of mastering your craft, continuing your education, caring deeply for your clients, and refusing to settle for average.

If we want the world to respect our profession, we must first respect it ourselves. The quality of our work is what elevates all of us.

The beautiful thing about our profession is that there is always another level to reach. Anyone who truly makes this profession part of their identity can continue striving for excellence throughout their entire career. We can always become a better esthetician than we were yesterday. That constant pursuit of excellence is what makes our profession so special.

Never forget. A license allows you to practice. The title of esthetician is earned by the quality of your work ❤️✨
