Halloween is quickly approaching, and we know you can't wait to go trick-or-treating on the installation. While it is important to know when that happens (from 6 to 8 PM on October 31), it is also important to know safety tips.

Post officials note that trick or treating is a voluntary activity, and that pandemic safety procedures from the CDC should be followed – for example, face masks must be worn. A Halloween mask does not protect from the virus by itself. On-post residents who opt not to participate in passing out goodies should simply leave their porch lights off during this period.

To maintain CDC guidelines, trick or treating at Fort Hood will be one-way, meaning if a resident wishes to hand out candy, they must do so outside. Distribution of treats must be:
•  Ringless – don’t make children come to you to ring your doorbell, have treats outside.
•  Touchless – don’t touch candy with bare hands, use gloves or open the bag and pour directly onto tray or container.
•  Avoid bowls where many hands will touch the candy.

Some options include:
•  Unattended “Grab n’ Go”– place candy on the porch with no one there.
•  Attended “Grab n’ Go” – candy six feet away from you.
•  Gently toss candy to children.
•  Use a long tube or contraption to maintain at least six feet of distance to dispense treats.
•  Do not participate – an unlit porch means there is no candy to be distributed.

Lastly, Fort Hood officials encourage families that wish to take their children trick or treating to do so in their own neighborhood/village to reduce the possibility of spreading the virus.
