🏔️ In honor of #NationalParkWeek, we're celebrating one of Colorado's most beloved and climate-vulnerable alpine residents: the American pika. 

These tiny rabbit-relatives live high in the mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park, where they depend on cool temperatures and deep snowpack to survive. They spend their summers busily collecting grasses and wildflowers, stashing them in hay piles to carry them through the winter. But as Colorado's winters warm and snowpack shrinks earlier each year, their alpine world is changing fast, and that has scientists worried. 

That's why Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance and Rocky Mountain Wild launched the Colorado Pika Project, mobilizing a community of dedicated volunteer Pika Patrollers to monitor populations across Colorado and collect the critical data needed to protect this species and the mountain ecosystems we all depend on.
