A college student built what could be the fastest RC jet in the world... from his dorm room. ✈️

The aircraft, called Reaper, was designed by aerospace builder Tomas Salvo using a lightweight 5 kg carbon-fiber airframe and a 250 N turbojet engine. According to Salvo, the jet can reach speeds of up to 500 mph, placing it among the fastest remote-controlled aircraft ever built.

And honestly, that’s what makes this project so incredible.

Instead of relying on a professional workshop, Salvo designed the molds, manufactured the carbon-fiber components, and completed the composite layups himself while working from his college dorm.

The jet carries enough fuel for only about two minutes at full power, but it demonstrates just how far individual engineers can push modern aerospace technology with the right skills and determination.

The project even caught Elon Musk’s attention, who suggested launching it from a mountain to see whether it could approach supersonic speeds during a dive.
Whether Reaper officially becomes the world’s fastest RC airplane or not, it proves something bigger.

Groundbreaking engineering doesn’t always come from billion-dollar companies. Sometimes it starts with one person, a bold idea, and a college dorm room.
