I worked with Nicole (pic in first slide) for a very short time in Denver back in 2012-2013 at KMGH. She had previously worked at KNBC here in Los Angeles and was instrumental in me getting in the door.

I remember her asking what my end goal was and I told her I wanted to work in LA. She said, “You could work at KNBC tomorrow, just let me know if you want to talk with someone over there.” I told her, “I just got here like 8 months ago, that wouldn’t be a great look.” To which she replied, “If that’s where you want to be, why waste time?” A couple months later, my bags were packed and I was off to my new life in my dream city. I can’t thank her enough for making that connection and pushing for me to take the leap.

Now she heads up Scripps Sports, who have exploded onto the live sports scene with NHL, WNBA and NWSL contracts all over the country on their ION network. A couple of years ago she brought me on as a freelancer to shoot features for their national pregame shows. Since then we have always said it would be cool to one day be on a shoot together. This past Saturday we made it happen for the first time in 13 years!

I always tell interns and people starting out in media my rules to live by: be nice, have a positive attitude and work hard. You never know who you might be working with again later in life. This is just another example of how that happens.
