A major long term study by researchers at the University of California San Diego followed more than 11,000 children from ages 9 to 17 to examine how cannabis affects the developing brain. Teens who used cannabis showed slower improvement in memory, attention, language, and processing speed than nonusers. The study found these differences were modest but meaningful during adolescence. Researchers caution that the results show a strong association, not definitive proof that cannabis directly caused the changes.
