The most powerful AI model in the world, Claude Fable 5, was asked: “You’ve read every psychology study and the work of every major psychologist and philosopher. What are the five things everyone must understand about their own psychology, or risk failing in life?”

The answers felt uncomfortably real to many.

1:  You are not a reliable narrator of your own mind. Nisbett and Wilson showed in the 1970s that people confidently explain choices driven by factors they never noticed.

2:  Environment beats willpower. People who look disciplined mostly design their defaults and schedules so the right choice is the easy one.

3:  You adapt to almost everything. Achievements stop producing happiness sooner than expected, while feared events hurt for less time than predicted. Connection, novelty, meaning, and progress resist that fade.

4:  Avoidance drives most suffering, since every dodged conversation buys relief now and a stronger fear later.

5: You become your relationships. The Harvard Study of Adult Development, the longest longitudinal study ever run, found close relationships predict health and longevity better than wealth or fame.

The uncomfortable part is not that these are hard to understand. It is that most people can name the point they are currently violating and keep violating it anyway.
