Dwayne Johnson has responded to the viral reaction to his long-haired Maui wig in Disney’s live-action Moana.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s Los Angeles premiere, the future WWE Hall of Famer said the internet’s response “was so funny” and that he “spent 48 hours laughing at it.”

He told THR that early images never tell the whole story: 

“Anytime you see a first look at something, you’re looking at it through a keyhole.” And he understood the jokes: “I get it, I’m a pretty well-known bald actor and you see me all of a sudden with long flowing locks and curls.”

Johnson also rejected the idea the remake came too soon, telling THR he never bought into waiting 20 or 30 years, and that Disney first approached him in 2019.
