Ryan Clark recently spoke about his sobriety journey and something he said really stood out to me:
“It doesn’t have to be an addiction to be a problem.”

That line alone makes you reflect on how many habits we normalise because they’re socially accepted. The weekend drinks with the gworls. Wine o’clock after the kids go to bed. Cocktails to “take the edge off.” Dessert every night because “you deserve it.” It looks like self-control on the surface, but sometimes it can become dependence.

One thing I notice often in women trying to lose weight is the resistance to giving up alcohol. Not because they can’t physically survive without it, but because emotionally it has become part of how they relax, socialise, reward themselves, or cope. And even when alcohol goes, something else often replaces it like sugar, overeating, constant snacking, online shopping, doom scrolling, needing a “little treat” every evening. Not every habit is an addiction.
But that doesn’t mean it isn’t having an impact.

That’s why weight loss is rarely just about food.

What habits in your life seem harmless but may actually be holding you back?
