In our sit-down interview, NKem Jika, 27, @shantelle_linus originally from Nigeria and now based in the UK, opened up about her long-standing experience with weight struggles and what ultimately pushed her to take control of her health.

In December 2024, she reached a turning point in her health. She described herself as always being on the bigger side, but over time she began experiencing sciatica pain and discomfort in her knees. Simple everyday movement started to feel heavier, and it became clear something had to change.

That moment marked the beginning of her weight loss journey.

Since then, NKem has lost around 28kg, moving from a UK size 18 to a size 10, and now weighing approximately 72kg. But she rarely frames it in numbers. Instead, she talks about what has changed internally; feeling lighter, more energetic, and more at ease in her own body.

Fitness has become part of her routine rather than a challenge to overcome. She now goes to the gym around four times a week, and living close to one has helped her stay consistent. What once felt like effort has gradually become a normal part of her week.

In 2026, she expanded her routine to include cardio, strength training, and flexibility work, focusing on building a balanced and sustainable approach rather than chasing quick results.
Alongside her training, she adopted OMAD (One Meal A Day), which she says helps her keep her calorie intake simple and easier to manage. She hasn’t tried other diets, choosing instead to stick with what works for her.

Today, what stands out most in her story is not just the physical transformation, but the shift in how she feels about herself. She dresses up with more confidence, feels more energetic, and carries a sense of pride in her progress and reclaiming her comfort.
